چکیده
The study aims for a comparative study of butyl rubber (IIR) and bromobutyl rubber (BIIR) based on spectroscopic, dielectric and thermal characterization. Using FTIR, complete vibrational analysis of butyl rubber and bromobutyl rubber are made available which confirms their chemical structure and the functional groups present in them. The effect of microwave frequency, namely 10 GHz and 26 GHz on dielectric constant values of IIR and BIIR was studied by using the method proposed by Robert and Von-Hippel. The thermal behavior of the rubber materials was studied from Thermogravimetric (TG) and Differential Thermal (DT) thermograms. The thermal stability of IIR and BIIR was compared from TG curves and the thermal transitions such as glass transition temperature (Tg), crystallization temperature (Tc) and crystalline melting temperature (Tm) were detected from DTA curves.

Butyl rubber (polyisobutylene-co-isoprene (IIR)) is a very important commercial elastomer with many desirable physical properties, such as low air permeability and broad damping properties. The principal uses of this material are in the tire industry for the preparation of inner tubes and inner liners of passenger car tires. Despite these unique properties, there are some deficiencies associate...
متن کاملTemperature Scanning Stress Relaxation of an Autonomous Self-Healing Elastomer Containing Non-Covalent Reversible Network Junctions
In this work, we report about the mechanical relaxation characteristics of an intrinsically self-healable imidazole modified commercial rubber. This kind of self-healing rubber was prepared by melt mixing of 1-butyl imidazole with bromo-butyl rubber (bromine modified isoprene-isobutylene copolymer, BIIR). By this melt mixing process, the reactive allylic bromine of bromo-butyl rubber was conver...
متن کاملSpectroscopic, Dielectric, Thermal and Hardness studies on uncured and cured Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber and Chlorosulphonated monomer
The enormous increase in the commercial demand for the rubber and the probability of the continuance of this increase in view of the great variety of purposes to which the material can be applied, demands a thorough understanding of its structure, composition and physical/mechanical properties. Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene rubber (HNBR) and Chlorosulphonated monomer (CSM) were investigated in...
متن کاملEffect of carbon black and fly ash co-fillers content on mechanical and thermal behaviors of styrene butadiene rubber compounds
Fly ash (FA) is produced as a waste byproduct during the burning process of coal in thermal power plants whose cost is primarily associated to cleaning and transportation. It possesses mechanical properties on account of its constituents like silica and alumina. The use of FA as filler in styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) was of researchers’ interest to reinforce and/or to reduce product cost. In ...
متن کاملBarrierity of hydrogenated butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber and butyl rubber after exposure to organic solvents.
Resistance of antichemical clothing primarily depends on the type of material it is made from, in particular on the type of polymer used for coating the fabric carrier. This paper reports on systematic investigations on the influence of the cross-linking density of an elastomer and the composition of a cross-linked elastomer on its resistance to permeation of selected organic solvents. Tests of...
